Why Tallow
Why Use Grass-Fed Beef Tallow Skincare?
Tallow skincare is rooted in simple ingredients, traditional rendering, and a back-to-basics approach to everyday skin care. At Homegrown &, our tallow products are made for customers who want fewer unnecessary additives and a closer connection to where their ingredients come from.
What Is Beef Tallow?
Beef tallow is rendered beef fat. It is made by slowly heating quality beef fat, separating the clean liquid fat from the remaining solids, straining it, and allowing it to cool into a rich, balm-like texture.
For generations, rendered animal fats like tallow were used in cooking, soap-making, salves, candles, and everyday household goods. Today, tallow is making a comeback because customers are looking for skincare made with simple, recognizable ingredients and a closer connection to the source.
Why People Love Tallow Skincare
Simple Ingredients
Many customers choose tallow skincare because they want fewer unnecessary fillers and a more straightforward approach to everyday skin care.
Rich Moisture
Tallow has a naturally rich texture that helps soften dry areas and leaves skin feeling nourished, smooth, and cared for.
Close to the Source
Our tallow is connected to Diamond B Ranch cattle, giving customers more transparency and a stronger connection to the ingredients in their everyday products.
How We Render Our Tallow
Rendering tallow is a slow, intentional process. The goal is to take quality beef fat and turn it into a clean, smooth ingredient that can be used in our small-batch tallow skincare products.
We Start with Quality Beef Fat
Our process starts with beef fat sourced from cattle connected to Diamond B Ranch. Using more of the animal is part of our commitment to reducing waste and creating useful products from real ranch resources.
The Fat Is Trimmed and Prepared
The fat is cleaned, trimmed, and prepared for rendering. This step helps remove unwanted pieces and creates a more consistent render.
We Slowly Render It Down
The prepared fat is heated low and slow. As it warms, the fat melts into liquid tallow while the remaining solids separate out.
The Liquid Tallow Is Strained
Once rendered, the liquid tallow is carefully strained to remove remaining solids. This helps create the clean, smooth texture customers expect from our tallow products.
It Is Cooled and Prepared for Use
After straining, the tallow is cooled and prepared for our small-batch skincare formulas. The result is a rich, traditional ingredient used in balms, soaps, and other Homegrown & products.
We Make Products in Small Batches
Our tallow skincare is made in small batches so we can focus on texture, consistency, and quality from start to finish.
Learn More About Tallow
The History of Tallow Skincare
Tallow is not a new trend. Rendered animal fats have been used for generations in cooking, soap-making, candles, salves, and household goods. Before modern skincare became complex, families often relied on simple, practical ingredients that could serve more than one purpose.
At Homegrown &, we see tallow as part of that tradition. It reflects a practical way of using more of the animal, reducing waste, and creating a product that connects back to real ranching and real resources.
Nutrition Profile of Beef Tallow
Even though skincare is applied topically, many customers like understanding what tallow is made of. Nutritionally, beef tallow is almost entirely fat and contains a mix of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. That fatty acid profile is part of what gives tallow its dense, balm-like texture.
Nutrition values are based on publicly available USDA-linked nutrition data for beef tallow.
